Grapel was expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly after arriving in Tel Aviv and continue on to the United States, where he lives.
He was detained in Egypt in June on espionage accusations, which Israel has denied. The Egyptian prisoners crossed the border into Egypt near Israel’s Red Sea resort of Eilat.
