The Silverstein Hebrew Academy was created to provide a warm, nurturing environment for young Jewish Children. We offer a challenging academic program, small classes, excellent teacher / student ratios, and a professional staff of educational specialists. Your child will receive an education filled with Torah and tradition, and will be prepared for the future as dedicated Jewish men and women.

Our curriculum builds on the child's spiritual, social, emotional. Intellectual and physical growth. Our Jewish colander serves as a framework for our study of the holidays & Torah stories and tradition.

Our classes are held in clean, cheerful classrooms equipped with the newest educational materials and toys. Our indoor and outdoor play areas provide the children with safe and exiting play equipment. The classroom libraries include a wide variety of both Judaic and Central literature for each grade level. The children in Nursery Bet, Gimel and Kindergarten classrooms are encouraged to use computers in each room to supplement their units of study.
Parent's Role
It is our goal to work as partners with the home. We encourage parents to join us for parent teacher conferences, workshops, lectures, and special programs. We are dedicated to creating a community within our school. Holidays are shared together. We belive shared activities foster the child's enthusiasm for learning.
PHILOSOPHY
ARTS
The arts flourishing at SHA Elementary as a result of its new partnership with the
Great Neck Arts Center. Multimedia fine arts, creative movement, instrumental music and drama are included in this innovative, comprehensive program for children starting in Pre-Kindergarten through the elementary grades. Students will thrive in an atmosphere dedicated to the success of each student. Educational research has shown that the incorporation of the arts in to a program contributes to a greater success academically as well as providing a fuller appreciation of life.
LITERACY
SHA offers a balance literacy program, combining basal anthologies, fine literature and a Columbia approach to writing. We adhere to stage guidelines throughout curriculum areas, while providing for each child's strengths and needs. individualization being the hallmark of fine education. In addition SHA partners with HALB in order to cutting edge research materials, and strategies.
COMPUTER LABORATORY
Technological skills are needed to function in the world around us. At SHA we have provided a state of the art computer laboratory where curriculum skills, activities and educational games are implemented. Our goal is to make the computer user friendly as an efficient and exciting learning tool.
HEBREW LANGUAGE - TAL AM
Our Hebrew Program works on two levels. Hebrew is incorporated into our Judaic Studies as well as having a Native Hebrew speaking teacher providing additional language classes. Thus our elementary grades will have quality as well as quantity in
Hebrew language exposure. Our Hebrew Curriculum comes from Tal - Am, considered to be one of the finest world wide. Our goal is Hebrew literacy to equip our students with the knowledge and skills needed to live vibrant Jewish lives.
RESOURCE ROOM
Included within the elementary program is our Resource Room. Support, individualization as well as special materials are provided here by patient, dedicated teachers who work toward providing the assistance when needed for academic success, in both Judaic and general studies.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMMING
Optional after school programs are offered. Both arts and physical education are instructed by highly experienced Great Neck Arts professional staff members.
S.P.I.C.E.
For those children qualified to undertake greater intellectual challenges, we offer the S.P.I.C.E. program in literacy and math. S.P.I.C.E. literacy is based on art history, and high quality literature. Children will create their own art work and learn to write confidently and expressively. S.P.I.C.E. math hones thinking skills in logic and problem solving and stresses divergent thinking.
SCIENCE
At SHA we offer an in depth science program based on inquiry method. Hands on experiments are included throughout the year making the children more aware of the role of their senses in everyday experience. Our goal is to stimulate natural curiosity while training children to think like scientists.
At SHA Elementary, we integrate our traditional Jewish values with contemporary educational practices to support our young students in their quest to construct meaning from the world around them. We understand the developmental process of growth and carefully fashion an educational environment that stimulates and protects each child's unique style of physical, spiritual, cognitive, and socio-emotional learning.
